One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation for injuries following a fire at Forest Park apartments on West Street, according to Rocky Hill fire officials. After one resident was initially unaccounted for, all residents were able to self-evacuate and none reported injuries. Firefighters conducted a search and did not find anyone inside. Eight apartments were left uninhabitable, and the Red Cross is assisting in the relocation of impacted residents, fire officials said.
The fire started at approximately 6 p.m. with heavy smoke coming from three windows, fire officials said. Rocky Hill firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with an interior attack while ventilating through the roof and windows.
The Rocky Hill Fire Marshalโs office is investigation the cause of the fire. Firefighters from area task force towns Cromwell, East Berlin, Newington, Glastonbury and Wethersfield assisted at the scene. West Street was reopened after being closed in both directions from Main Street to the Veterans Home.
