Crews battle house fire in Suffield

VIDEO: A home in West Suffield is destroyed after an early morning fire. A quick response and a quick knockdown on Saturday morning. The fire was less than a mile from the townโ€™s fire station. Fire officials told us they responded to this house fire around 12:30 a.m. this morning. Although the department is close, the house was already engulfed in flames when crews arrived. It took them about a half hour to knock down the fire. They were able to use tanker trucks to supply water, versus having to resort to pumping it from nearby middle pond.

No one was injured and no one was home at the time of the fire. Fire officials said the homeowner came by and told them the home was under renovations, so no one was currently staying there. Mutual aid came from Windsor Locks and across state lines from Southwick, Massachusetts. โ€œWe also called for tankers to back us up from Lost Acres and from East Granby. So, it was a community effort,โ€ said Suffield Fire Captain Lee Cannon. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No further details were released.
