With both paid and volunteer fire departments coping with a lack of firefighters, the Canton Fire & EMS Department is seeking young people to apply for a special program for youths.
The department is now accepting applications for both the Fire and EMS (emergency medical services) Cadet Programs for teens aged 15-17. “We’re on the lookout for highly motivated youth who are ready to serve their community and grow with our thriving team,” wrote the department in an announcement.
Currently, Canton Fire & EMS has 10 emergency medical services cadets and six firefighter cadets, with the department looking to expand. The program will feature firefighter and emergency medical technician training, with participants developing leadership skills and learning how to work as a team.
If all goes well, cadets can become full-fledged members of the fire department when they turn 18.
