19 people displaced after fire in New Haven

A dumpster fire spread to two homes on Davenport Avenue, displacing 19 people, on Wednesday night. The fire started at around 7 p.m. The fire caused heavy damage to 231 Davenport Ave. and moderate damage to 227 Davenport Ave., according to fire officials.

One of the two homes has 19 occupants, while the other was vacant, New Haven Ward 3 Alder Angel Hubbard said. All the occupants made it out of the home safely, and no one was injured, Hubbard said. The displaced people are waiting for assistance from the Red Cross. Firefighters said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
