1 dead after fire at multi-family apartment building in Hartford

VIDEO: One person is dead after a second-alarm fire at a multi-family apartment building in Hartford on Monday. The fire department received multiple 911 calls around 9 p.m. about the fire at the 72-unit Juniper House Senior Living building on 636 Prospect Ave., according to Hartford Deputy Fire Chief Adam Guertin. Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes and found fire on the top floor of the building with heavy smoke. They requested a second alarm for additional resources.

Guertin said firefighters entered and helped several people out of the building. They placed the fire under control in about 20 minutes, Guertin said. An adult died on the top floor from the fire. Mario Oquendo, Jr., Hartford Fire Department district chief and public information officer, said that first responders also brought one person to the hospital to be treated and evaluated for a “medical situation unrelated to the fire.”
