VIDEO: Nearly 50 people took part in a rescue operation at Devilโs Head on Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson from Douglas County Search and Rescue told FOX31. A man fell while climbing in the area.
For those who arenโt familiar with rescue terminology โ a complex, multi-step rescue was required to first reach the fallen climber, with rescue teams having to ascend to the area where he was located and then slowly levering him down a steep, rocky surface.
The rescue team described the rescue happening in this order:
- A two-pitch, high-angle rescue to get to him and then get him down
- A complex exposed carry
- Shorter pitch, high-angle lowering
- Numerous low-angle pitches to get through the terrain
After the rescue was completed, the man was taken to a helicopter in Rampart by an ambulance. He is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the fall. All crews were successfully and safely able to get out of the area themselves.
