A Colorado mother and son who failed to return from a hike near Echo Lake Park on Sunday were found by search and rescue crews on Monday night. The Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office said a search effort involved dozens of first responders, dogs, and drones.
Echo Lake is about 40 miles west of Denver and 13 miles southwest of Idaho Springs. The sheriff’s office posted about the search just after 6:30 p.m. and then said the two were found safely at 7:15 p.m.
Their car was up at Echo Lake, according to the sheriff’s office. They found their way to Evans Ranch, where there was someone who took them in. The ranch is in a large valley below Mount Blue Sky to the east. It’s a long walk from Echo Lake and thousands of feet down.
