Grand Junction Firefighters rescue ducklings and kitten from storm drains

VIDEO: Cats stuck in trees are not the only small animals the Grand Junction Fire Department (GJFD) rescues. On Sunday, May 4, in the morning, Station 3 crew members with the GJFD responded to a call about several ducklings that had fallen into a sewer grate. After removing the grate, the team hoisted the ducklings back to the surface, reuniting them with their mother.

On the morning of May 5, a Good Samaritan alerted the Grand Junction Police Department Animal Control Unit and the GJFD about a kitten in a storm drain. Crew members from the GJFD crawled into the storm drain and were able to bring the kitten back to the surface. โ€œWe eventually had to use the catโ€™s biggest fear of water to get the cat out, so we used a hose line and spread some water, and the cat came running right to us,โ€ said Neil Perko, a firefighter with the GJFD. Once the kitten has recovered from injuries, it will be up for adoption.
