According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), crews responded around noon on Monday to a fire near Highway 67 north of Wetmore. The Wetmore Volunteer Fire Department said seven Wetmore firefighters and three wildland engines assisted the Florence Fire Protection District as they battled strong winds fueling the fire.
The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control said the fire appears to have originated from “multiple starts” near Highway 67. According to WatchDuty, the fire burned about five acres, and the Wetmore Fire Department said it was under control in about three hours.
