Fire at Colorado Springs restaurant under control, 1 in critical condition

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said a structure fire on North Academy Boulevard is now under control. Firefighters said multiple apparatus were on scene of a fire at Bayou Seafood and BBQ at 302 North Academy Boulevard on the east side of Colorado Springs Tuesday night. As of 9:42 p.m., crews said the fire was under control.

CSFD confirmed at 10:38 p.m. that firefighters rescued one victim and immediately provided medical care. He was reportedly taken to the hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

The fire Lieutenant on the scene said tackling fires at abandoned buildings requires a unique approach. โ€œAbandoned buildings do change slightly how we attack the fire,โ€ CSFD Fire Lieutenant Jeff Wanderscheid said. โ€œSo weโ€™re not gonna go running in. So we do what we call a targeted limited area search, called TLAS, which we will pick certain areas from the outside, where we believe that somebody may be at. Namely, like exit doors, offices, things like that. Well, weโ€™ll go in and do quick searches until we get the fire under control, and then we can go in and do a better search.โ€ The cause of the fire is under investigation.
