Crews rescue man from rock ledge in Garden of the Gods park

VIDEO: Members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department rescued a man from a rock ledge about 75 feet off the ground inside Garden of the Gods park. A park ranger notified the fire department about the stranded climber around 7:45 p.m. Monday. He had no safety gear or climbing equipment, which is against park regulations, the fire department said.

Crews from two engines and a heavy rescue team, who are all specially trained in high-angle rescues, set up a rope system which allowed them to repel from the top down to the stranded person. Once they reached the man, they provided him with a harness and a helmet and brought him down the rock face. He was not injured, the fire department said. The rescue took just over an hour.

The fire department said it encourages everyone to enjoy Colorado parks, but asks that visitors know the rules and have the proper permits and equipment.
