Crews put out fire in Parachute, still monitoring hot spots

Fire crews put out a brush fire in Parachute. On April 21st, The Grand Valley Fire Protection District was called to a brush fire reported at 4:38 p.m. Crews were assisted by other fire agencies from De Beque and Rifle, as well as the Garfield County Sheriffโ€™s Office (GCSO) and Parachute Police Department.

Officials told us the fire has been 100% contained, but crews are still in mop up mode and are monitoring a few hot spots. Parachute PD issued pre-evacuation orders for residents nearby, but the orders were lifted at 8:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, and no nearby structures were damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
