VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Redding woman was arrested for felony DUI after a crash with a semi-truck on Interstate 5 on May 6, 2025.
The Redding Police Department (RPD) said Sheila Acker, 68, was driving north on Hilltop Drive near the Interstate 5 overpass at 7:55 p.m. when she failed to navigate a curve. Police said Acker’s vehicle left the road, broke through a fence and guardrail, and traveled down an embankment before colliding with a semi-truck driven by Miles Heagy, 49, of Idaho.
RPD said the impact caused Heagy’s truck to lose control and overturn against the guardrail. Heagy sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Emergency responders extricated Acker from her SUV, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Officers determined Acker was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. After being medically cleared, she was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
RPD said the crash caused significant delays as Caltrans and wrecker crews worked for several hours to remove the vehicles and repair the roadway and guardrails.
