VIDEO: 5 killed in fire near Edwards Air Force Base in eastern Kern County

Five people were killed in an overnight fire at a home in a community near Edwards Air Force Base, Kern County fire officials said. The fire broke out at a home in the 18200 block of Claymine Road at around 12:15 a.m. on Thursday. Kern County, California City firefighters and crews from Edwards Air Force Base responded to the home that was fully engulfed in flames.

Officials said fire crews learned there were multiple people possibly trapped inside the burning home. Flames threatened neighboring homes and another structure on the property was also damaged. Crews were able to get the fire under control and officials said five people were found dead inside the home. The victims were only described by officials as an adult and four minors. One adult and three other minors were able to escape without injury, officials said in a statement. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
