Semi-truck carrying Teslas catches fire, shutting down 5 Freeway in Los Angeles

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Roads along the 5 Freeway in Sylmar were shut down after a semi-truck carrying Tesla vehicles was engulfed in flames Saturday. Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the southbound lanes, just south of Balboa Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. Video from scene showed the truck was hauling at least eight vehicles when, for reasons under investigation, the vehicle caught on fire. Both the truck and several cars on the trailer were engulfed in flames. A SigAlert was issued around 6 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol for at least two hours as several roads on the northbound and southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were closed to traffic. Drivers were being diverted to the northbound 14 Freeway. Firefighters were working to save the vehicles that were not yet affected by the flames. The cab of the truck also caught on fire, but the driver escaped and was uninjured.ย
