A motorcycle crash on a scenic Southern California road sparked a brush fire in the San Fernando Valley Sunday afternoon. The incident was reported shortly before 1 p.m. on Redmesa Drive near Topanga Canyon Boulevard and not far from the 118 Freeway in Chatsworth.
The motorcycle ended up in medium brush, igniting a fire that burned toward the Santa Susanna Pass ridgeline, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The blaze generated multiple spot fires and scorched about an acre before firefighters extinguished it with the assistance of water-dropping helicopters.
The fire department said it planned to fly drones over the area on Monday morning to evaluate the scene. The unidentified rider was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
