Los Angeles County firefighter paramedic suffers ‘active-duty death,’ department announces

The Los Angeles County Fire Department announced the “active-duty death” of one of its firefighter paramedics on Saturday. Jerry W. Guzman died sometime on Friday, according to the department’s X feed, but officials did not provide further details about his death. “It is with a heavy heart the #LACoFD share the active-duty death of FFPM Jerry W. Guzman,” the department wrote. “FFPM Guzman was last assigned to FS 32 in Azusa. He faithfully served our Department & communities for 23 years. We extend our deepest prayers & condolences to the Guzman family.”

The department updated its profile photo to include a black stripe over the logo, something police and fire departments often do after an active-duty death. The fire department later clarified that while Guzman was currently employed with L.A. County Fire, he did not pass away while on the job. The department could not confirm how he died.
