Los Angeles: 65-year-old woman found dead after bungalow fire in Hyde Park

VIDEO: Rescuers found a woman dead in Hyde Park on Sunday after a fire inside a unit in a row of bungalows. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the fire in the 6300 block of South Brynhurst Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. Dozens of firefighters were able to knock down the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining units in less than half an hour. They found the body inside the burning unit.

Authorities did not immediately name the 65-year-old woman who died. Investigators noted that the building had functioning smoke alarms. Arson investigators are now looking into how the fire started. “I opened my front door and I saw a big ball of black smoke coming from the apartment building across the street,” said witness Rita Rogers. “And I saw a lady coming out screaming, saying that there was an old lady inside the apartment that was on fire. They were so engulfed with black smoke.”
