‘He was living out his real purpose’: Community mourns El Dorado County Fire Marshal

VIDEO: More than 100 people gathered in historic downtown Placerville to remember an El Dorado County Fire Marshal. Lucas Shepard, 43, drowned while on vacation with his family in Hawaii in March. On Thursday evening, family, friends, firefighters, and community members all came together to honor his life and share stories of some of their favorite moments with him.

โ€œItโ€™s great to see that diversity here, knowing that he touched and was a part of so many people’s lives,โ€ Tim Cordero, Fire Chief with the El Dorado County Fire Protection District, said. “It’s an honor to have worked alongside him for the years that we had. Iโ€™ll cherish those memories.”

The memories that were shared about Shepard were defined by positivity and a commitment to serving the community. “Sometimes it’s scary to imagine the future without him because he was such a bright light,โ€ his mother, Liz Nagel, said. His mother shared stories about him, his dedication to his three young boys, and his ability to make anyone feel special.
