VIDEO: Eleven people were evacuated and two people were taken to the hospital after a fire at a group home in a central Fresno neighborhood late Wednesday night. Fresno City Fire Department Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said they responded to a house fire around 11 p.m. near Price and Yale avenues, which was used as a group home for people with various degrees of medical problems. Wanless says they knew from having been there before that they had eleven occupants.
โWe wanted to do a rescue strategy right away. Upon arrival, noticing the smoke was coming from the rear of the building. We were able to get a quick primary search and to confirm that we had everybody out of the building, while we also extinguished the fire at the same time,โ said Wanless. The fire was located between the garage, which was detached from the main building. So it was definitely a serious threat to the 11 occupants,โ said Wanless. Two people were transported to the hospital with minor inhalation injuries.
