Group home fire in Fresno sends 2 to hospital, 11 evacuated

VIDEO: Eleven people were evacuated and two people were taken to the hospital after a fire at a group home in a central Fresno neighborhood late Wednesday night. Fresno City Fire Department Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said they responded to a house fire around 11 p.m. near Price and Yale avenues, which was used as a group home for people with various degrees of medical problems. Wanless says they knew from having been there before that they had eleven occupants.

โ€œWe wanted to do a rescue strategy right away. Upon arrival, noticing the smoke was coming from the rear of the building. We were able to get a quick primary search and to confirm that we had everybody out of the building, while we also extinguished the fire at the same time,โ€ said Wanless. The fire was located between the garage, which was detached from the main building. So it was definitely a serious threat to the 11 occupants,โ€ said Wanless. Two people were transported to the hospital with minor inhalation injuries.
