VIDEO: Forward progress has been stopped on a fire that was burning quickly through grass and brush south of the Sacramento International Airport, according to the fire department. The fire started shortly after 1:20 p.m. along Garden Highway and Power Line Road, the Sacramento Fire Department said. The fire was burning light, flashy fuels, and it had a rapid rate of spread. LiveCopter 3 footage shows the fire burning in a field and kicking a plume of white smoke. The fire had burned 221 acres, as of 3:45 p.m., Sacramento Fire said. Five agencies were working to keep the fire within containment lines. One thing helpful for fire crews was the close proximity of the Sacramento River. Firefighting aircraft were able to load the vessels with water from the river for airdrops and to gather water for the tankers.
