Evacuations lifted as crews stop forward progress of Claro Fire in Carlsbad

VIDEO: Crews stopped the forward progress of a brush fire that triggered evacuations in Carlsbad on Thursday, officials said. The Claro Fire sparked in a canyon near Corte Claro and Paseo Encino close to the Carlsbad-San Marcos border before 3 p.m., sending large plumes of smokes into the sky. The blaze grew to 45 acres before officials said the forward rate of spread had been stopped around 5:45 p.m. It is 25% contained, according to Cal Fire. “Fire crews are making progress and continuing to build containment lines and extinguish hotspots within the fire perimeter,” Cal Fire said. An evacuation order, which has since been lifted, was issued for areas north of Camino Junipero, Paseo Cristal and Fire Road, south of San Elijo Road, east of South Rancho Santa Fe Road and Sitio Salvia, and west of San Elijo Road and Dove Tail Drive. Stagecoach Park — located at 3420 Camino De Los Coches — was being used as a temporary evacuation point. Evacuation updates can be found on Genasys Protect.
