VIDEO/PHOTOS: A 31-year-old Altadena man and survivor of the Eaton Fire has officially reached Paradise on Tuesday after spending the last few weeks walking 700 miles from Southern California to raise awareness and money for wildfire victims.
Demitri Camperos started the ‘Fire Walk’ on October 16, traveling through numerous communities affected by wildfires. Camperos says he started walking early each day and ‘looped around’ to find the safest routes from his walk that began in Altadena. Camperos also lost his family home in the Eaton Fire.
He was greeted on Tuesday afternoon by members of the Paradise community, town leaders and first responders at the New Hope Plaza. Camperos told KRCR he is inspired by the sense of community and resilience in the town. He plans to meet with officials who responded during the Camp Fire to learn from their experiences and bring those lessons back to his own community.
