California deploys 150 rescue personnel to aid Washington amid severe floods

PHOTOS: Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday ordered the deployment of California fire and rescue teams to Washington state as severe flooding continues to threaten communities across the region.

Newsom authorized sending roughly 150 personnel, including a swift water rescue team, three Urban Search and Rescue task forces and an Incident Support Team. Western Washington has been hit by consecutive atmospheric river storms that dropped several inches of rain in a matter of days, triggering evacuations, water rescues and major transportation closures.

โ€œIn times of crisis, California doesnโ€™t hesitate to support our neighbors. Deploying Californiaโ€™s Urban Search and Rescue teams reflects our shared commitment to protect lives, strengthen regional resilience, and stand with states that need our help,” Gov. Newsom said.

The California Governorโ€™s Office of Emergency Services said the deployment includes two swift water rescue boats and six Marin County Fire Department personnel, along with federally coordinated US&R resources.
