Boy saves sister, infant niece from apartment fire in San Diego

VIDEO: A 10-year-old boy is being called a hero after helping evacuate two other children from a fire in a home Wednesday in the College Area. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 5200 of Reservoir Drive, Battalion Chief Oscar Rodriguez with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department told FOX 5/KUSI. When first responders arrived on scene, they saw heavy fire coming from a second floor bedroom window. Firefighters were able to knock the fire out quickly.

Three kids — a ten-year-old boy, his sister and six-month old niece — were all in the same room where the fire happened, according to SDFD. Rodriguez says the boy was sleeping with his niece and woke up to the fire. “He was able to grab her, call for his other sister, yelled that there was a fire, got out of the unit unharmed. All three were able to get out safe,” Rodriguez said. Bronx Baldwin, the ten-year-old boy, said he first smelled the fire and then saw it, screaming fire to let his sister know. Baldwin grabbed the baby and went outside with his sister while she called 911, he added.
