VIDEO: A fire at a senior living facility left 150 senior citizens in need of shelter on Monday night. The fire broke out in the electrical vault at Casa De Los Amigos on Monday, according to the Redondo Beach Fire Department. About half a dozen seniors were evacuated, while the others were told to shelter in place while crews worked to put the fire out. SoCal Edison shut off power to the building.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but now, all of the residents have been displaced, at least temporarily, and the Red Cross is helping them find a place to stay. Fire officials said there was very little damage to the facility, and most of the damage is in the electrical room. Two people were taken to the hospital — one for possible smoke inhalation and another with a moderate injury.
