VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Tuesday morning fire destroyed a downtown Rector flower shop. Police Chief Kelly Baker told K8 News he received word of a fire at The Copper Rose, located at the corner of Main Street and West Third, around 7 a.m. Tuesday. When he arrived at the scene at 7:05, Baker said the building was fully engulfed. Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries. However, despite the best efforts of the Rector Fire Department, the police chief said they were unable to save the building.
Crews from multiple fire departments, including Piggott and Paragould, were called in to assist in putting out the fire. Multiple businesses nearby were also affected. โThey are going to have smoke damage, heat damage, water damage as well, so lots of people in the community are upset,โ Baker explained. Baker said fire investigators will examine the scene, adding that anyone with any information regarding this fire should contact his office.
This is only one of several fires that have ravaged Northeast Arkansas recently. Rector Fire Chief Steve Ward said while each fire is its own case, one factor has not been helping. โThe weather has a lot to do with it,โ said Ward. โNot this fire in particular so much. We have had fires in the past couple of days caused by dry weather.โ
