Game and Fish Commission’s Jonesboro office destroyed by fire

A fire destroyed the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Jonesboro office. According to Jonesboro Fire Chief Marty Hamrick, crews responded to the office between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday. “Heavy fire at the end of the building had spread into the attic and consumed most of the attic upon our arrival,” he said.

Hamrick said crews had issues fighting the fire due to water issues. “We had a thunderstorm roll through, and we had to deal with that. Mosquitoes were an issue for a while. The nature of the building and the limited water supply were our main challenges. We did contact Southridge Volunteer Fire Department to bring tankers out and help supply water for us, and that helped out a lot,” he said. Hamrick said crews were out all night and were still working on Monday morning. “Now, we’re going through an overhaul on the building, we’re getting all the hot spots put out on the building, and we’re beginning the investigation phase,” he said.
