Fall fuels wildfire risk in Arkansas as officials urge early fire reports

VIDEO: We’re a month into the fall season, and it’s typically considered the most active time for wildfires in Arkansas.

87% of wildfires are caused by humans.

We spoke with Saline County Emergency Management, where officials say fall brings some of the most dangerous conditions for wildfires, and many of them are preventable.

From fallen leaves to dried-out grass, Saline County Emergency Managers say itโ€™s the prime time for wildfires.

“We have what we call cured fuels. So a lot of leaves that have dropped, a lot of grass has dried out. Those conditions, plus low humidity, really work together to cause, to cause, really a dangerous situation for wildfires,” said Stuart Duke, emergency management fire services coordinator.

And itโ€™s not just the fuels, itโ€™s the weather.

Cooler mornings give way to drier air in the afternoon, making it easier for sparks to catch.
