A fire caused significant damage to a local public golf course. Just after 8 p.m. Wednesday the Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the Golf North Hills Country Club, 94 Craighead County Road 776, north of Jonesboro. Fire Chief Curtis Miller told K8 News when they arrived, one side of the building was “fully engulfed” in flames.
He said that was the area where the golf carts and other utility vehicles were stored.
Miller said they called the Brookland Fire Department to assist. Together, the two departments were able to keep the fire from spreading into the rest of the building. However, he said it suffered “significant heat and smoke damage.” Firefighters did not clear the scene until nearly 1 a.m. Thursday. Miller said at this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
