VIDEO: The Tucson Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire October 1, at a strip mall in the 4000 of East 22nd Street. The TFD says the fire was reported about 3:19 a.m. Crews arrived two minutes later and found multiple semi-truck trailers fully involved in fire. Tucson Fire says the flames had already spread to an adjacent strip mall. Crews quickly took a defensive strategy and fought the fire from the outside.
The TFD says the fire was contained to one business in the strip mall and two semi-trailers. The structure fire was officially marked under control at 4:37 a.m. The TFD says one of the semi-trailers was carrying several cases of hand sanitizer, a flammable substance due to its alcohol content. Crews used alcohol-resistant foam and deployed the aerial ladder to act like a sprinkler system over the burning trailer, ultimately putting out the fire at 10:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
