PHOTOS: The Phoenix Fire Department posthumously promoted a Phoenix firefighter to captain, the department announced on Thursday. Adam Cauthron who had died in September 2024 after suffering an unspecified health emergency, the department announced after his death. A ceremony at the Phoenix Fire Administration building took place on Aug. 8. Phoenix Fire Chief Mike Duran presented the posthumous honor.
Cauthron had 18 years of service and was on the “Captain’s List” before he died. Cauthron was trained and certified in technical rescues and hazardous materials. In addition, he was a member of Arizona Task Force 1, which responds to national disasters when called upon by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Cauthron left behind a wife and two children.
“Effective this day, it is hereby ordered that Firefighter Adam Cauthron is posthumously promoted to the rank of Fire Captain, with all the rights, responsibilities and honors thereof. Let this rank stand as a testament to his dedication and sacrifice to the citizens of Phoenix and to his brothers and sisters in the fire service,” the Phoenix Fire Department said in a statement.
