VIDEO: A furry fugitive from the High Country was detained after running loose around Pinal County for over a week. The Pinal County Sheriff deputies and local firefighters worked together to rescue a small bear that was hiding in a palm tree last Saturday. โItโs definitely a once-in-a-lifetime call,” Deputy Ruben Quintana said. “It was like something out of a Disney movie.โ A sighting of the bear was first reported at least one week ago, according to Quintana. โHeโs kind of just eluded us since. Heโs a little sneaky guy,” Quintana said.
A couple of deputies saw the bear running in a field near Arizona Farms and Felix Roads around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and chased him. โSome of them had lassos out, and we werenโt quite sure what they were chasing down, but then all of a sudden we just saw this bear run up the tree, and we were like, ‘Oh my God, thereโs a bear in the tree,'” Kenadie Cooper, a witness, said. Quintana responded to the call. At that point, the bear was already hiding in the palm tree. Arizona Game and Fish tranquilized the bear, which allowed Queen Creek firefighters to help bring it safely down.
