Firefighter dies in eastern Arizona crash; 2nd deadly crash for Timber Mesa Fire in a month

VIDEO: A firefighter in eastern Arizona died in a crash on Friday, marking the second deadly accident involving the department in under a month. The Navajo County Sheriffโ€™s Office says around 6:45 a.m., a head-on collision was reported involving a motorcyclist and a truck on Lone Pine Dam Road, just outside of Show Low. The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District identified the motorcyclist as Glenn Collins, 46, a firefighter EMT with the department. โ€œOur entire organization is grieving the loss of another one of our own,โ€ the department said on social media. โ€œWe ask for privacy as we support family, friends and fellow firefighters during this very difficult time.โ€ The truck driver was identified as a 21-year-old woman from Show Low. Details about her werenโ€™t released.

This incident marks the second deadly crash involving Timber Mesa Fire in less than a month. The department lost two of its firefighters in a head-on crash involving their ambulance on Sept. 15. The firefighters killed in September were identified as 31-year-old Brenna Kulikowski and 21-year-old Damon Thompson. The department said Kulikowski had been with Timber Mesa for three years, while Thompson was 15 days shy of finishing his first year.
