Body-cam video shows first responders rescue trapped motorcyclist in Phoenix

VIDEO: Newly released body-cam video shows the moments when first responders scrambled to save a motorcycle rider who was trapped under a car. Phoenix Police Sgt. Richard Jarrett was one of the first on the scene and knew immediately that he had to act quickly. โ€œHe was moaning a little bit, obviously from the pain,โ€ said Jarrett. ” I could hear him crying a little bit. My first thought was how do I get him out, but then I could see the way he was underneath the car, and his leg was up by his chest, and the other leg tangled under the drive train.”

The video shows Jarrett kneeling down and talking to the victim, trying to keep him calm until fire crews arrived. โ€œWhenever somebody is a crush victim, you always have the possibility of internal bleeding,โ€ said Jarrett. โ€œIf you start moving people, you can puncture other things and cause more bleeding, so the last thing you want to do is move someone crushed from something without being prepared.โ€ The motorcycle rider had collided with a sedan on June 6 near 7th Street and Grovers Avenue. Itโ€™s unclear whether the victim slid under the car or was run over.
