Update: SUV destroyed in Caribou Hotel fire linked to missing 86-year-old woman

VIDEO: Authorities have identified a vehicle destroyed in a Glennallen hotel fire earlier this month as belonging to an 86-year-old Valdez woman who has been missing for weeks, according to the Valdez Police Department. โ€œI think the big concern was they hadnโ€™t heard from her in a few weeks,โ€ said Sara Jorgenson-Owen, Valdez public information officer.

โ€œBy time we were looking for her as a missing persons, it was Nov. 19 and her family hadnโ€™t heard from her since the 5th.โ€ Evans runs the Valdez Copper Basin Insurance in Valdez and appeared at several Roadhouse dinner functions, according to Jorgenson-Owen.

Jorgenson-Owen reported that Evans was last seen on Nov. 8. Police said she was believed to be traveling from Anchorage to Valdez on Nov. 11, possibly driving her blue 2020 Ford Escape. The timeline is still developing. โ€œWeโ€™re still hearing from some people who say, โ€˜oh, I saw her, talked to her at the gas station,โ€™ or โ€˜we were chatting recently.โ€™ So weโ€™re still putting together that timeline of events,โ€ Jorgenson-Owen said.
