Moose trampling at Anchorage park leaves woman hospitalized

A woman was hospitalized but is expected to survive after being trampled by a moose Tuesday afternoon, Anchorage Fire Department officials say. AFD said it responded to a moose attack on a trail in the University Park area around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire department says the attack involved a woman, a dog, and a moose. The woman sustained injuries to her lower body, AFD said. It is unclear at this time as to what happened during the interaction or what may have provoked it. It happened just days after another recent moose attack involving a woman and a dog in Kincaid Park that left both with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said earlier this week that moose with newborn calves are very aggressive. Fish and Game also said dogs are seen as a threat to moose and owners should remember to keep their pets leashed.
