Authorities safely disposed of deteriorated dynamite discovered Thursday afternoon at a Valdez residence, prompting a temporary evacuation of nearby homes. The Valdez Police Departmentโs Explosive Ordinance Disposal team, assisted by state and federal personnel, responded at around 3 p.m. to a home on Dadina Street after a person cleaning the property found the old explosives, officials said.
Police determined the dynamite was in degraded condition and too unstable to move. Residents in the immediate area were notified of the hazard and asked to temporarily leave their homes while the explosives were handled. Valdez Fire and EMS were placed on standby throughout the operation. By 6 p.m., the dynamite was safely disposed of, and residents were cleared to return home, officials said.
