Anchorage Fire Department raises over $100,000 for Fill the Boot day

VIDEO: The Anchorage Fire Department raised $102,704 in their Fill the Boot campaign, according to their Facebook post. Members of the AFD followed the lead of firefighters across the U.S. and took to the streets on Aug. 29 to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The tradition goes back over 70 years.

โ€œThis event involved off-duty firefighters, as well as on-duty firefighters as their call volume permitted, soliciting donations from the public for three hours at busy intersections,โ€ the post reads.

โ€œThank you for helping us continue the tradition of empowering people living with neuromuscular disease to live longer, more independent lives.โ€ Members of the public saw firefighters in more than 10 major intersections around town, raising funds. Anyone who wants to donate can still do so online until the end of the year.
