PHOTOS: The Speake Volunteer Fire Department has recently partnered with Lawrence County Emergency Management Services to strengthen emergency responses. According to the department, the partnership will boost emergency response capabilities in the southeast portion of Lawrence County.
Paramedics, Advanced EMTs and Basic EMTs at Speake VFD now have the capability to transport ill or injured patients to the hospital whenever ambulance services become overwhelmed with emergency calls. SVFD told News 19 that they have several EMS-licensed volunteers that are able to place an ambulance into service which creates a much faster response time, rather than requesting an ambulance from a surrounding county.
