Montgomery Fire/Rescue Chief Miford Jordan to retire

After 40 years of service with Montgomery Fire/Rescue, Chief Miford Jordan is retiring. Miford, a native of Fort Deposit, served MFR and Montgomery as a firefighter for 40 years, with 18 of those as fire chief. During his tenure, Miford made history in the department as the first Black deputy fire chief, first Black fire chief, and the third firefighter to reach 40 years of service, according to MFR officials. The cityโ€™s fire department received a number of accolades and achievements under Mifordโ€™s leadership, such as the ISO 1 rating, advancement of EMS equipment and new fire and medic trucks, donations to multiple groups, including $2 million to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, $700,000 to the United Way, and $50,000 to different cancer research organizations.
