Mobile first responders bring home medals from World Police and Fire Games

VIDEO/PHOTOS: At the World Police and Fire Games, first responders from all over the world competed in Olympic-style events. Several Mobile first responders represented the United States, bringing home medals. More than 70 countries competed in this yearโ€™s games, hosted in Birmingham. The event includes job-specific competitions tailored for law enforcement and firefighters.

The competition featured 60 different sporting events like table tennis, basketball, softball, etc. Those events also include a triathlon, where Mobile Firefighter Colin Ryan placed fourth, despite recovering from an injury. โ€œIโ€™ve been doing triathlons for the last ten years about on and off. From sprint distances all the way to full Ironmanโ€™s,โ€ Ryan said. โ€œThis one was a little different โ€˜cause I broke my foot the beginning of May.โ€ โ€œSo, I didnโ€™t know if I was going to be cleared. I had about two weeks to get ready for the race,โ€ he continued. Since 1985, the World Police and Fire Games have brought together over 80,000 first responders from more than 70 countries every two years.
