VIDEO: According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, roughly four acres were burned during the grass fire along I-10 between Theodore Dawes Road and McDonald Road on Wednesday. The fire started just after 4 p.m. behind the interstate near the Amazon Fulfillment Center.
Theodore Dawes Fire-Rescue and Mobile Police were also on the scene to help contain the flames. The fire was contained around 6 p.m., and crews will keep monitoring the area to prevent any flare-ups. AFC Mobile County Forester, Lucas Jones, told News 5 they have seen an increase in wildfires due to the recent dry spell.
โWeโve been definitely seeing an uptick in them recently,โ said Jones. โYou know, weโre just going to continue to see them as long until we get some more rain. Luckily, they havenโt been too big, and theyโve been fairly manageable,โ Jones said. The AFC wants to remind residents to use extra caution, with a statewide fire danger advisory still in effect.
