Gadsden firefighter recovering after being severely injured from fallen tree

VIDEO: An off-duty firefighter in Gadsden is recovering at UAB Hospital after he was hit in the head from a fallen tree. His wife says he was outside their home when it happened and became unresponsive while sustaining severe injuries. โ€œHeโ€™s always told me if you come up on somebody and theyโ€™re not responsive. He said donโ€™t check their pulse, just immediately start CPR so thatโ€™s what I did,โ€ said April. April Campbell says her husband was cutting a tree that was leaning on another tree near their house. Shortly after, a piece of the tree hit her husband in the head. April acted quickly while instructing her son to call 911. โ€œI got down to the creek where he was and he was on his back covered in blood and he wasnโ€™t responding at all. Gallant Volunteer Fire Department showed up and they took over chest CPR for me and then the ambulance came and they rushed him down to UAB,โ€ said April.
