VIDEO: An off-duty firefighter in Gadsden is recovering at UAB Hospital after he was hit in the head from a fallen tree. His wife says he was outside their home when it happened and became unresponsive while sustaining severe injuries. โHeโs always told me if you come up on somebody and theyโre not responsive. He said donโt check their pulse, just immediately start CPR so thatโs what I did,โ said April. April Campbell says her husband was cutting a tree that was leaning on another tree near their house. Shortly after, a piece of the tree hit her husband in the head. April acted quickly while instructing her son to call 911. โI got down to the creek where he was and he was on his back covered in blood and he wasnโt responding at all. Gallant Volunteer Fire Department showed up and they took over chest CPR for me and then the ambulance came and they rushed him down to UAB,โ said April.
