VIDEO: Business owners affected by Fridayโs devastating fire in downtown Birmingham are speaking out after several buildings were severely damage. The fire, which began early in the morning on Halloween, severely damaged three buildings, according to the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.
One of those buildings was where Savannah Hrbek owns a salon named โBlush,โ but her connection to the building is much deeper than that. โI grew up in these buildings. My family lived upstairs for 40 years,โ Hrbek said. โThey owned a restaurant when I was a kid โ The Back Alley. I kind of grew up there. I spent my 20s at the Blue Monkey, Cobb Lane, and Jay Clyde.โ
Hrbek said the early morning fire destroyed everything inside her salon. Sheโs unsure what the next steps will be. โIt was extremely emotional โ just seeing it all go, all the memories, my childhood really,โ she said. โWeโre waiting on the investigation to be finished. Weโve been talking with the firefighters here, who have been just incredibly helpful through this whole process, and itโs just kind of a waiting game at the moment.โ
