The Foley City Council has approved a reorganization of the fire department, adding new jobs to the department and giving current firefighters the chance to advance. According to a City of Foley news release, the reorganization will add an advanced firefighter position and a dedicated driver operator position.
โCurrently, with our firefighter positions, between our entry-level position and our lieutenantโs position, which is the next-ranked officer, thereโs a five pay-grade difference,โ Fire Chief Joey Darby said. โThis will give us some real good bandwidth to be able to add some positions.โ
Darby also said the restructuring will allow the department to recruit more firefighters. โWe will have more of an entry-level position, but also show that upward mobility,โ Darby said. โWe think thatโll make us a little more attractive, competitive in the market.โ
