VIDEO: Gadsden firefighters contained a fire Saturday morning at the former Goodyear plant, now leased by renewable energy logistics company Takkion. According to the city, crews responded to the back side of the sprawling industrial property earlier Saturday morning. By 8 a.m., the fire was contained, and no injuries were reported.
“We want to thank Chief Vance Brown and the Gadsden Fire Department for their quick response, and we also want to thank all the other area fire departments who have responded and offered aid,” Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford said in a news release.
The Gadsden Fire Department was not aware of anyone being at the facility at the time the fire occurred. The 2.9-million-square-foot complex, once home to Goodyear, was being repurposed as a logistics hub for Takkion, a company that stores and handles renewable energy materials such as solar panels for projects across the country.
