PHOTOS: A fire broke out at the Scott Davis Chip Mill on July 6, 2025, at 4:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from local and neighboring fire departments. The fire, which originated on a transfer belt, spread to a nearby chip pile but was quickly extinguished with minimal damage, according to the Brent volunteer Fire Department.
Brent Fire Department, with assistance from Centreville Volunteer Fire Department and Brierfield Volunteer Fire & Rescue, deployed a joint ladder truck and multiple lines to combat the blaze. Brent deployed engine 2, engine 1, Centreville Brent Ladder 1, and Rescue 3. Centreville responded with a tanker, rescue, and engine, while Brierfield provided a tanker, pumper, quint, and rescue truck.
“We are grateful for the mutual aid from neighboring departments,” said a spokesperson for the Brent Fire Department. The department also extended appreciation to the Brent Police Department, Centreville Police Department, and AmServ EMS for their on-scene assistance. Additionally, the crucial support of Bibb County E-911 was acknowledged.
