VIDEO: An unoccupied building at Nine Oaks Apartment was destroyed in the second fire at the complex in less than a month. According to WAFF 48โs newspaper partner, the Times Daily, even though the building was supposed to be unoccupied, firefighters searched each apartment just in case to ensure no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, Fire Chief Matt Mothershed said.
The fire broke out at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Friday. At least 19 firefighters worked the scene and were able to get control of the fire within an hour, Mothershed said. โIt started in a downstairs apartment and went up the wall into the attic,โ Mothershed said. โIt has a common attic.โ He commended the work of firefighters who extinguished the blaze while making sure nobody was in danger. โThey did a complete search of the building as they were fighting the fire to make sure nobody was in it,โ Mothershed said. โThey did a good job. Iโm proud of them.โ The apartment complex has detached buildings. The building where the fire occurred was destroyed, but the other buildings were not impacted.
