Fire at Mobile County Metro Jail, no injuries reported

A fire at Mobile County Metro Jail caused a brief stir Tuesday morning. Several units were called to the jail after 6:30 a.m. Fire officials say they could see smoke coming from the roof of one of the buildings as they made their way there. When they got inside, they found that two industrial dryers had caught fire. The fire spread through the ventilation system to the roof. Firefighters put the blaze out in a few minutes. No one was hurt. The fire department says this was an accident. Given the size of the building and that hundreds of people are housed at the jail, this call was considered a high life hazard, which is why several units responded.
